Lauren Slater is a Harvard-trained psychologist who is also the director of AfterCare Services, a mental health clinic. In addition, she has taught creative nonfiction writing for Goucher College's M.F.A. program. Her work was included in The Best American Essays of 1994 and 1997. The author ofWelcome to My Country (1996), she lives with her husband in Boston.
