Martha Hodes

Martha Hodes, a professor of history at New York University, is also the author of White Women, Black Men: Illicit Sex in the Nineteenth-Century South, which won the Allan Nevins Prize for Literary Distinction in the Writing of History. She holds degrees from Princeton University, Harvard University, and Bowdoin College and is the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Council of Learned Societies, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture of the New York Public Library, and the Whiting Foundation. She lives in New York City and Swarthmore, Pennsylvania.
