Online book clubs are so yesterday – now there’s an app for that. At least on the BlackBerry that is. Borders made the announcement at a recent Blackberry conference (which might not be the best place to find book club types – just sayin’). And is it just me or do online and mobile book clubs miss the point of human interaction and um… wine??

Are you scratching your head at this headline? I know I was. Blio is new e-reading software developed by Ray Kurzweil and KNFB Reading Technology in conjunction with Baker & Taylor. It supports video, audio, original full-color layouts and an enhanced Text to Speech feature and is free to download. Yeah I don’t like the name either. But I didn’t like iPad either and that didn’t stop anyone. Oh and if you’re wondering what the complaints are all about just search twitter for #blio and #fail.
Okay I have to admit it took me a minute to figure out where Ivanhoe was. (It’s Australia if you’re as lost as me) – but once I did I could focus on the story. 90 years People…90 years. Now as you can imagine the current members haven’t been a part of it for 90 years, because, well… this is not sci-fi. But some have been members for 50 years. Pretty amazing, Mate.
Any excuse to read and talk about books is a good one as far as I’m concerned. The Pittsburgh Symphony believes their book club helps their audience have a deeper connection to music. Their book selections include historical novels, biographies and popular science about music, or related to it and they bring some technology into the mix with authors often Skypeing in.
