It’s been a busy few weeks of prepping for our 8th Annual Book Expo Book Group Speed Dating event that is happening on Friday. There are sooooo many details that have to come together for this event. The PowerPoint presentation is ready, and the leave behinds are at the printer. We just seated the 22 tables that publishers will be presenting at and got notes out to our amazing volunteers. Close to 300 people signed up to attend! We will have photos to share in our next newsletter, as well as the slide presentation and an Excel document with all the titles. There are brilliant books in this presentation; 2019 has been a great year for reading thus far, and it definitely is going to continue to be!
In the last two newsletters, I wrote about Skyping with authors. My newly formed neighborhood book group spoke with Lisa See via Skype on Wednesday night about THE ISLAND OF SEA WOMEN, and Melanie, who lives in Florida and edits our Word of Mouth and Sounding Off on Audio features on Bookreporter.com, also had a Skype chat with Lisa that she and her book group enjoyed immensely. I have been to many events where Lisa has presented through the years, but there was something very special and intimate about this evening where she shared feedback on both her research and writing process. I loved seeing how my fellow book group members asked smart questions that sparked lots of conversation. While we had explored the videos on Lisa’s website, this discussion really broadened our experience. It was such an informative evening.
