Talking Book Club Books

Milestone last week --- we now have 1,800 book clubs registered at ReadingGroupGuides.com. We are working on some excitng exclusive Registered Book Club offers for the upcoming months so be sure your group is registered.

Reading your mail over the past year I see an something interesting trend. When we first started this website people would tell me that only certain books were "book club discussion books." From your requests in email we are seeing that book clubs are discussing a wider range of books and authors. This has us expanding our offerings to you.

This also is inspiring our book club poll question this month which talks about book discussion guides. Please weigh in by voting.

Guides coming up next month include THE READING GROUP by Elizabeth Noble (with a contest you are not going to want to miss!), SHADOW DIVERS by Robert Kurson, Jodi Picoult's new one, VANISHING ACTS, and a novel we have been spotlighting on Bookreporter.com as One To Watch, ME & EMMA by Elizabeth Flock.

Until then, have a great month!

P.S. I just got back from the video rental store.  I saw The Five People You Meet in Heaven is just out on DVD. May we suggest this for a DVD/Book Discussion event?

BOOK SENSE BEST BOOKS: 125 Favorite Books Recommended by Independent Booksellers

Independent booksellers, who traditionally have championed books into bestsellers via clubs, first discovered many books that are loved by book clubs. Word of mouth from these stores has been credited with the success of titles from THE RED TENT to COLD MOUNTAIN to THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME. Those looking for selections for their book clubs --- and who want to see what these book "experts" are excited about --- need to look no further than a new book called BOOK SENSE BEST BOOKS: 125 Favorite Books Recommended by Independent Booksellers. What's there? This group's top picks, book club picks and top classics for children and young adults, as well as the lists compiled by these booksellers from their own trade organization, Book Sense, which was founded in 1999. By the way, the delightful forward is by Barbara Kingsolver, a true book club favorite.

NORTHANGER ABBEY, Featured in THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB

Ever thought about making your book club a Jane Austen Book Club? Given the success of the bestseller THE JANE AUSTEN BOOK CLUB, by Karen Joy Fowler, we're sharing with book clubs what they need to make this happen. Beginning last November thru this April, we will publish a discussion guide that Fowler has written expressly for book clubs for one of the six Jane Austen titles mentioned in the book. Our fourth selection this month is NORTHANGER ABBEY.

To make this Austen celebration even more fun, we are selecting 5 groups to each win 12 copies of NORTHANGER ABBEY for their discussion. Interested? Send us your name and mailing address by writing [email protected] by February 28, 2005 to be eligible to win. See complete list of rules at the link below.

In case you missed past month's selections:
Emma
Sense and Sensibility
Mansfield Park
